“Working to make Auburn and Cayuga County a Fairer and more Peaceful Place to Grow, Live and Work!”
Our Story
Established in 1996, the Harriet Tubman Center for Justice & Peace, Inc. (HTCJP) was organized as a New York State non-profit 501(c)3 tax exempt corporation. It was originally created to serve as a coalition of social justice-minded groups and individuals operating in Auburn and Cayuga County. As the organization developed, its mission evolved and currently focuses on empowering and enhancing the dignity of all community members through diverse programmatic and long-range strategic initiatives. These efforts seek to empower and embolden various communities within and toward the concept of one community, one shared vision platformed on a respect for diversity in all of its various iterations while establishing bridges to recognize humaneness and not artificial societal differences based on “isms” that invariably separates and creates distance.
To implement this challenging mission, HTCJP works to stimulate and support an inclusive, engaged community through constructive community projects that address a diverse range of social justice and peace concerns; to plan, promote, and when necessary, coordinate and execute strategic social justice and peace related activities and foster overarching educational and community enhancement programs that promote social justice and peace in our community.
